Talent Density

Lately, I’ve been thinking a lot about Talent Density.

It’s a simple idea: we often rise or fall to the level of the people around us.

Think about the last time you worked with someone who was exceptionally good at what they did.

Maybe they were incredibly organised. Maybe they asked questions you hadn’t even thought of. Maybe they could take a complicated problem and make it look simple. Or perhaps they just had a level of ownership that made you think, “I should be doing that too.”

You may not have consciously decided to learn from them.

But you did.

That’s the interesting thing about being around talented people. Learning doesn’t always happen through formal training, courses, or feedback sessions. Sometimes, it happens through observation.

You start noticing how they approach problems, how they communicate, how they handle pressure, how they prepare before a meeting. Slowly, their standards start becoming your standards; that is the real power of talent density.

A high-talent environment can shorten your learning curve dramatically. You get exposed to better questions, better ways of thinking, and sometimes even better ways of working.

But there’s another side to this that I think we don’t talk about enough.

It’s about being surrounded by people who challenge you to become better.

Sometimes, that person is your manager.

Sometimes, it’s a teammate.

Sometimes, it’s a junior colleague who approaches a problem completely differently from you.

And sometimes, it’s a friend
